616 Girod Street. . Once the site of land owned by Don Bertrand Gravier, this area was subdivided into the Faubourg Ste. Marie neighborhood in 1788. During the 19th century, the neighborhood developed into a hub of commerce, which remains today. This impressive three-story building was built as an investment property circa 1875 and has hosted a variety of businesses over the centuries, including a veterinarian practice, a wood turner, a saloon, and the photography studio of Charles L. Franck and Alfred Louis Bertacci. A prime example of historic central business district architecture, the building boasts a wide balcony with a cast iron railing and columns. The property has housed the law offices of Courington, Kiefer, Sommers, Marullo and Matherne since 2016.
