1. 17 West Monroe Street Marker

Inscription. One of the community's first lumber yards was located originally on this site. Then in 1891, the Hotel Central was constructed and soon became recognized as one of the finest hotels in the area. Salesmen would ride the Western Ohio Interurban, spend the night or longer, and display their wares in the hotel's 'sample' room. As late as the 1930s, rooms were $1.50, but the deluxe suite rented for $5 nightly, a high price in its day.
