After enlisting, Fred first case through the ranks to Specialist 5 prior to receiving a Signal Corps commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Once commissioned be served as Platoon Leader. Company "B" 23rd Signed Battalion, American Division, Camp Gaylor, Saigon, RVN, following his discharge in 1972 as a 1st Lieutenant, he affiliated with the Army Reserve where be continued to serve until his retirement.
