Kenneth Adams
1897-1966
Kenneth Adams was the youngest and last member to be voted into the Taos Society of Artists. After receiving his formal art education at The Art Institute of Chicago and The Art Students League in New York, Adams sought further training in Europe. In order to be near his former teacher, Andrew Dasburg, Adams moved to Taos in 1924. It was Dasburg who had the greatest influence on Adams' style and development. Adams had great respect for the Native American and Hispanic cultures, featuring both in his portraiture and depictions of their seasonal activities. His work is characterized by a simplicity of form and faceted images, suggesting a modernist approach. He was the first artist-in-residence and a member of the faculty. at the University of New Mexico.
