Regarding Monte Carlo Hall/J.A. Taichert & Company Store. Joseph Abraham Taichert (1882-1955) was the oldest of five brothers in Prussia (now part of Germany) who were orphaned in 1896. Joseph emigrated to the United States in 1903 (his brothers followed two years later) and went west for health reasons, working at the El Porvenir resort near Las Vegas before becoming a trapper. He later opened a haberdashery in Las Vegas and launched J.A. Taichert & Co., which became one of the largest wool and hide wholesalers in the Southwest. He and his brother, Milton, opened a men's clothing store in Las Vegas in 1915 and by 1938 were operating a women's clothing outlet in town as well.
