Regarding Joe Garagiola. Garagiola lived across the street from his childhood best friend, Yogi Berra, who would also go on to have a successful baseball career. Elizabeth Avenue, where they resided, was later given the nickname "Hall of Fame Place" as this is the only street in the United States where three Baseball Hall of Famers lived (The third being Jack Buck, who was inducted in the broadcasting category).
Also see . . . Joe Garagiola Sr. on Wikipedia. Garagiola (1926-2016) played for four MLB teams but his most successful years were with his home team, the St. Louis Cardinals from 1946 to 1951. He would help them win the World Series in 1946. In his later years, he would have a successful broadcasting career, appearing on The Today Show as a regular panelist. 3. Joe Garagiola Marker
Plaque commemorating the accomplishments of Joe's younger brother, Mickey. Like the plaque for Joe, this one is also in front of their boyhood home, set into another concrete walkway span between the sidewalk and Elizabeth Ave. It's noteworthy that the Garagiola home is directly across the street from Lawrence "Yogi" Berra's home and only one block west of Jack Buck's home also on Elizabeth Ave. Amazing to have 3 baseball Hall of Famer's within the same block!
