Regarding Porter Hall. Industries Hall (renamed Porter Hall in 1951) was the first building erected for the Carnegie Technical Schools, and was the primary base of operations when the institution opened in 1905. For the first two academic years, all four schools (Fine Arts, Industries, Engineering, and the Women’s School) were housed in Industries (Porter) Hall. The Frew Street entrance (where the historical marker is located) was the first focal center of the school and was used for class pictures. It was designated a Pittsburgh Historic Landmark in 2000.
