Medic, Staff Sergeant Phillips served in Europe where he was present at the Battle of the Bulge and witnessed the capture of a Nazi Major General. He returned to the US. one week after V-E Day, however, once the Japanese surrendered, he was posted to Japan and served overseas again during the occupation.
