Inscription. The Gσmez House is representative of the board-and-batten structure on this lot at the end of the First Spanish Period (1565-1763). Such frame buildings comprised only 23 percent of all St. Augustine structures in 1763. Most buildings by the middle of the 1700s were made of coquina or tabby.

An interior ladder leading to attic sleeping quarters provided additional space to the family of infantryman Lorenzo Gσmez, who lived here with his wife and three children. Unable to sell his property before the family evacuated to Cuba, Gσmez transferred the property to a sales agent when he left, and the house was demolished during the British Period (1763-1784).

Reconstructed in 1969 by the State of Florida.
