Inscription. After Great Britain returned Florida to Spain in 1784, artillery Captain Pedro Josι Salcedo arrived from Havana to serve at the Castillo de San Marcos. In 1784 Salcedo bought this property with a two-story coquina house, which had replaced an earlier deteriorated and uninhabitable building. He died ten years later and his widow returned to Cuba. In 1796 General Jorge Biassou, a black military leader who fought in the Haitian Revolution, rented this house.

Reconstructed in 1962 on original foundations by the State of Florida.
