Rosman in Transylvania County, North Carolina — The American South (South Atlantic)
God's Children
Just as it was in the early days of the settlement, faith and family are valued by the people of Rosman. Some of the first churches were Zion Baptist Church, the Methodist Church, and the Church of God.
1) Zion was formed ca. 1848. An 1857 deed places the Church of Christ at the Zion Meeting Place, Eastatoe Ford. Zion continued at this location until 1950, when it moved across the river to Main Street.
2) Rosman United Methodist Church began ca. 1909 by purchasing the old Presbyterian church, used as the town's school. The first Methodist minister, Rev. R. C. Kirk, was appointed November 7, 1909.
3) The Church of God was organized ca. 1933, after a revival by traveling pastor Carl Cox. In the beginning, members met at the Showhouse in lower Rosman. In 1939, Joseph Silversteen donated the land where the church currently stands.
These three churches are still active with descendants of the founding families still attending. They are joined by the Rosman Baptist Tabernacle and the Pentecostal Lighthouse.
