1. George and Gohres Marker
Inscription. Commercial development on George Street coincided with the construction of the C.B.&N. railroad yard east of Rublee in 1886. On this block, the Schubert Meat Market was built in 1887 at 1721 George Street and Swenson Hardware Store was erected at 1711 George Street in 1891.
 
Erected 1999 by the City of La Crosse, the City's Historic Preservation Commission and the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. (Marker Number 2.)
