Regarding Baker Hall. One of the first buildings on campus, the architect Henry Hornbostel chose to deal with the slope of the land on which Baker Hall was built by sloping the corridor rather than placing stairways at intervals along it. This allowed for machinery and other equipment to be more easily moved from one end to the other. It was designated a Pittsburgh Historic Landmark in 2000.
