Born: 29th December, 1829 at Edinburgh, Scotland
Resident at British Headquarters Cape Coast as Chief Magistrate and Judicial Assessor to the Gold Coast (Ghana) 1873-1875 as Puisne Judge, Lagos, Nigeria [1875-1879] as the Chief Justice of the Gold Coast & Nigeria resident at Headquarters Accra [1875-1882]
Promoted the Catholic evangelization of West Africa and espoused the cause of refounding the Catholic church in the Gold Coast [Ghana] in 1880
Died on 9th August, 1889.
Buried at St. Mary Magdalenes Parish Church, Mortlake, London

This memorial was donated by the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall to commemorate Ghana Catholic Church centenary [1880-1980] and unveiled on Sunday, 31th August, 1980 by the Most Rev. John Kodwo Amissah. DD. DCL. Archbishop of Cape Coast, Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of Cape Coast & Supreme Spiritual Director of the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall
