Het Sarphatipark, genoemd naar de Portugees- Joodse arts Samuel Sarphati (1813-1866), werd in de jaren 1881-1886 aangelegd door stadsingenieur J.G. van Niftrik. Het moest dienen als groenvoorziening voor de bewoners van de wijk De Pijp. Het park is aangelegd in Engelse landschapsstijl en bevat een monument voor Sarphati en een gemaal dat het waterpeil van het park op orde houdt.

The Sarphati Park, named after the Portuguese-Jewish doctor Samuel Sarphati (1813-1866), was constructed by municipal engineer J.G. van Niftrik during the years 1881-1886. It was to serve as greenery for the residents of the neighbourhood of De Pijp. The park was constructed in the English landscape style and contains a memorial to Sarphati and a pumping station that keeps the park's water level in order.
