Inscription. In the 1990s, Vermeer experienced rapid growth for five years in a row. Much of this growth was due to demand in the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) industry as telecommunications utilities were installed underground around the world. Built in 1985, the team in Plant 6 originally built all rubber-tire products but was quickly overtaken by HDD rigs as business in this market grew. The original Plant 7 was constructed in 1994 to support Plant 6 in the production of HDD products, helping meet the demand of our customers connecting their communities to the necessities of life.

Once connected by four tunnels, Plants 6 and 7 took up a combined 400,000 square feet (37,000 sq M) of space. Following the 2018 tornado, Plant 6 was destroyed and Plant 7 became a stand-alone building for the first time in its history.

New Plant 7 opened it's doors in September 2021 and is now the largest single manufacturing facility on the mile at 750,000 square feet (69,678 sq M). Here, team members build small and medium HDD rigs and walk behind trenchers while continuing to innovate new products our customers demand long into the future.
