Regarding In Memory of John Rea. David Rea, John's oldest son, was just 10 years old when his father died. Under colonial law, David did not inherit his father's property until he reached the legal age of 21 in 1767. The deed that recorded his land donation to Providence Presbyterian Church appears to have been lost in a courthouse fire. John's brother, Andrew, was among the church's first elders when it was organized in 1767.

Also see . . .  Rea Family History. In the beginning of 1767 everything looked very well for the John Rea family. After arriving in Mecklenburg County four years earlier, they were at last getting a deed to their property.
