Learjet 28-001, The Record Setter
The 28 model Longhorn, serial number 001, first flew in 1977. It received FAA certification on July 29, 1979. Neil Armstrong was serving on the Board of Directors of Gates Learjet in 1979 when he was asked to help provide some publicity for the company's new Model 28. Armstrong gladly obliged and set five FAI records in the 28 Longhorn.

Shortly thereafter, Gates Learjet sold the aircraft to a commercial customer and it was transferred to a number of corporate owners until 2020 when it was donated to the Armstrong Air & Space Museum. Among the previous owners were McDonalds of Arizona, Shamrock Foods/Shamrock Farms, Elite Aviation, LLC, Raven's Wing, LLC, and Ox Industries/LR Services. On August 5th, 2020, Kevin Hayward of Ox Industries officially donated the aircraft to the Armstrong Air & Space Museum for permanent display.
