After a enlisting as an Army Private Les received a USAAF cadet appointment leading to a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. Once commissioned, he served as a B-24 Liberator bomber pilot during WWII, instructor pilot during the Korean confuct, and C97 transport pilot flying missions during the Vietnam War.
