During 29 years of service James deployed to the Persian Gulf region 7 times. As an enlisted Marine specializing in avionics and a Crew Chief he rose to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and in 1999 received The Paul Vess Award sponsored by Sanders, A Lockheed Martin Company, for the Most Outstanding Contribution to Marine Aviation by an Electronics Technician. He also worked on Marine I, the Presidential helicopter during the Clinton Administration. In 2000 be acepted a regular warrant as an Avionics Officer serving to the end of his career with, Q1-46 Sea Knight and Osprey Squadrons.
