Terry, while serving as a Marine Rifleman, suffered serious wounds in the neck, chest and both legs from fragmentation rounds during combat operations against enemy forces in the area of Chu-Lal, Vietnam on the 12th of September 1965 and, after which he was hospitalized and later temporarily retired until his discharge.
