Tower-House
Casa Torreada dos Barbosa Aranha
Imóvel de Interesse Público
Casa-torre do séc.
Tower-House of Barbosa Aranha
Property of Public Interest
A 17th century tower-house, combining harmoniously a square-planed tower with a rectangular residential lower aisle, both of simple elevation and regular window-line. The tower and the residential aisle are likely to be contemporaneous, since the ashlar masonries mix together, the gargoyles are similar and from the same period, and the interior spaces of both elements of the building are interconnected.
The regular corona with cannon gargoyles over the córnice and bevelled merlons on the tower imposes itself in the whole of the building.
The house is named after its owner's family, whose coat of arms is exhibited in the façade.
Erected by Câmara Municipal de Ponte de Lima, Valima.

Excerpt (in translation): This building is located in front of the Town Hall, following a tower house typology dating back to the first half of the 17th century, in urban terms. This building consists of two parts relating to the tower and the housing wing, connected to each other internally.(Submitted on December 21, 2023.)
The quadrangular tower with three registers presents an austere facade with an indication of military architecture, as it demonstrates a neo-medieval structure giving the impression of a defense turret.
The facade presents in its first register a perfect arched portal flanked by a secondary door and topped, in the second register, by a window with a balcony and an iron guard. The set is topped in the last register by a chest window.
