named the area Pilot Knob, referring to the hill's knob-like top. One hundred and fifty years ago Oheyawahi was a major location from which to view the surrounding landscape and the growing Twin Cities.

The preservation and restoration of Pilot Knob by the City of Mendota Heights and other agencies which funded these activities is a unique opportunity to re-create the hill's earlier oak savanna landscape—a landscape that has all but disappeared from this region. Through the efforts of many, future generations will be able to share the timeless beauty and sacred significance of Oheyawahi, the "hill much visited."
