1. Groot Kapittelhuis van de Dom / Great Chapter House of the Cathedral Marker
Inscription.  
Gebouwd 1462/67 ter plaatse van een ouder en kleiner gebouw. Het werd gebruikt voor bijzondere bijeenkomsten, zoals de vergadering van de vijf kapittels waarin een nieuwe bisschop werd gekozen. Tot 1528 ook vergaderzaal van de Staten van Utrecht. Op 25 januari 1579 werd er de Unie van Utrecht gesloten. Vanaf 1634 Groot Auditorium van de Illustere School (na 1636 Universiteit). Restauraties in 1879/79, 1935, 1960/61.

(English translation:)
Built 1462-67 on site of an older and smaller building. It was used for special meetings, such as the meeting of the five chapters in which a new bishop was elected. Until 1528 also meeting room of the States of Utrecht. The Union of Utrecht was concluded on January 25, 1579. From 1634 Great Auditorium of the Illustrious School (after 1636 University). Restorations in 1879-79, 1935, 1960-61.

Of greatest significance (in translation): On Tuesday, January 23, 1579, the Union of Utrecht was signed in the large chapter house, which laid the foundation for the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands and thus for the Netherlands as an independent state. For this reason the hall is also known as Uniezaal (“Union Hall”).

2. Great Chapter House of the Cathedral Marker - wide view
The marker is visible here just to the right of the entrance. Of note here is the metallic plate “line” set in the ground that terminates on the right side of the entrance. It is part of the line set in the ground in the early 2000’s that traces the remains of Utrecht’s Roman era fort, Castellum Trajectum.
