Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Demo Unit
This is a ¼ scale model of a parabolic trough Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) collector. CSP collectors like this gather solar energy by using mirrors or lenses to focus the energy of roughly 100 suns on the receiver tube, which then becomes very hot. A fluid such as water is pumped through the tube to collect the thermal energy, which can be used directly for industrial process heat, or it can be used to create steam to drive a turbine to make electricity. This technology is currently being used by UL Lafayette for research and to generate electricity at the Solar Technology Applied Research and Testing (START) Lab in Crowley, LA. This model is provided courtesy of Gossamer Space Frames of Lagauna Hills, CA.
