Rayne in Acadia Parish, Louisiana — The American South (West South Central)
Louisiana Frog Company
Louis Baer, an immigrant from France, was joined at this site in 1933, by the Babineaux brothers, Lionel, Desire, and Pete, to form the Louisiana Frog Company acclaimed "The Largest Shippers of Frogs in the World." Over 40 years, it fostered Rayne's unique sobriquet as Frog Capital and was visited by thousands, including Dwight D. Eisenhower and Bette Davis. By efforts of then Congressman Edwin Edwards, N.A.S.A. orbited two Rayne frogs in 1970, in experiment to solve spatial imbalance problems for U.S. astronauts.
Erected by City of Rayne.
