Inscription. The original 1876 two-story wooden mercantile store of Benton S. Freeman was re-built in brick in 1908. In the early 1900's a silent movie theater upstairs entertained the people of Pickens while the ground floor remained a general merchandise store for decades. Brock's Department store acquired the building and has been in continuous operation by the Brock family since 1957.
