In 1972 Al and Georgia Morris moved to Pickens, SC with Al's goal to become a pharmacist at a small-town pharmacy, the Corner Drug Store. With a 1-year-old daughter in tow, they took a leap of faith and pinned their hopes on the town of Pickens. Soon after, a son completed their family and Al had the opportunity to purchase the drug store. The Morris family put down roots in their new home.

The Corner Drug Store has remained a family pharmacy throughout the years. When Al retired in 2018, his son, Todd Morris, became the pharmacist and owner of the Corner Drug Store. Al’s daughter, Amy Morris, continues to work there too.

When painting began in 2022, Georgia Morris suddenly passed away, making this project even more poignant for the Morris family. They welcomed the opportunity to support local Art, show hometown pride, and contribute to the design in a personal way.

This quilt panel was based on a quilt made by Georgia Morris’ great-great Aunt Cassie around 1930. It was created using childhood clothing remnants from her mom and two aunts. Only small pieces of the original quilt remain, comparing photographs we determined the quilt had a border around it. A navy and yellow Morris tartan and parts from
