Inscription. This community house and grounds is dedicated in honor and memory of the men and women from this district who served in the armed forces of our country and who made the supreme sacrifice in World War II.

In 1940, 122 men from the Illinois National Guard Armory in Maywood were deployed to the Philippines after Pearl Harbor as part of a U.S. tank division. 2. Veterans Park District Marker
was across from Proviso Township High School (now Proviso East), whose student body includes Melrose Park residents. Only about one-third of the area men who were sent to the Philippines made it back home.
