1. Gibson County Marker
Inscription. The Lyles Station community, named for Joshua Lyles, was home during the mid-19th to mid-20th centuries to more than 800 free African-American settlers. During the 19th century, large coal and oil reserves were discovered in Gibson County. It was after an oil strike near Princeton in 1903 that pump jacks became a common site in cornfields and pastures.
