Inscription. This small structure made from cedar posts donated by O.A. Gruene of Gruene, Texas, just north of New Braunfels. The posts are set in vertically, rather than horizontally, in palisaded construction. It is a type of building that is symbolic of the ingenuity of the early Texas pioneer. Cedar posts would be too short to use in any other manner and in some early houses in San Antonio, short cedar or mesquite posts were used for small houses and covered over with plaster.

Erected by Witte Museum.
