Boston Community
Alta Vista was developed in 1927 for African American professionals. During the 1930s it evolved into a mixed income neighborhood, and its boundaries expanded to include other nearby communities. It became known as Boston. The community consisted of comfortable homes and a close network of residents and neighbors. Early residents included founders of Safe Bus Co., two assistant city managers, a chief of police, a state assemblyman, a U.S. Navy vice admiral, a federal judge, a founding member of The “5” Royales, educators, physicians, business owners, and factory and domestic workers. Boston is a community where lifelong friendships were born and thrived.
