Aiken in Aiken County, South Carolina — The American South (South Atlantic)
Gaston Livery Stable
The turn-of-the-century barn to the south is a notable example of eclectic Victorian, brick, U-shaped barn design and construction. It has a rare working early 20th century carriage lift. In 1909, David W. Gaston, Sr. (1860~1931) acquired the barn and surrounding farmland from the local Steadman family and opened a livery business here with his son, David W. Gaston, Jr. (1880~1932).
