World War II - USS Lowe (DE-325)
Following an initial assignment aboard the battleship USS New York, Ralph, a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class, was reassigned to the destroyer escort. USS Lowe (DE-325), where as a plank owner he commissioned the ship and served to the end of the war. During twelve North Atlantic convoy escorts aboard the USS Lowe, he and his shipmates survived a German torpedo attack and sank the German submarine, U866.
