Inscription.  
Monumento erguido por ocasião do 5º centenário do nascimento do Infante D. Henrique, a sua construção iniciou-se em 1894, na presença do Rei D. Carlos, tendo sido inaugurado em 1900. O projecto é da autoria do escultor Tomás Costa. A estátua apresenta o Infante vestido de guerreiro junto a um globo terrestre, apontando simbolicamente para além-mar. No sopé, dois grupos alegóricos representando o triunfo das navegações portuguesas e da fé.

To commemorate the 5th centenary of Prince Henry's birth, the main figure of the Portuguese Discoveries, this monument was inaugurated in 1900. The statue is of Prince Henry the navigator, in battle dress, beside a globe and, symbolically, pointing overseas.
