Staff Sergeant, U. S. Army - World War II
Headquarters Battery, 138th Field Artillery Battalion, 38th Infantry Division

Staff Sergeant Patterson, a Survey and Instrument Man, led men setting up and operating survey Instruments to locate buildings, tracks, drainage and water systems, and locating gun positions by calculating elevations, direction and military grid coordinate points. He and his men also determined distances by actual measurement with steel tape and instrument readings and fought in battles and campaigns in New Guinea, Luzon and Southern Philippines.

Enlisted 20 June 1942, Wilkes Barre, PA - Honorably Discharged 9 November 1948
