A Signalman aboard this Landing Ship-Medium, Charles and his ship participated and made landings during several campaigns at various locations throughout the South Pacific Theater, primarily in the area of the Philippines and Borneo, resupplying American and allied forces and often under heavy air attack, mortar and machine gun fire.
