1. Site of Marker
Inscription. Site of the First Jail and Sheriff's residence in Clinton County. The cells were located in the basement. Built by Wm. Utley for the County in 1837 for $1078. The jail was discontinued in 1857 when the County Seat was moved to St. Johns.
 
Erected 1976 by Historical Society of City of DeWitt.
