Inscription. This campus area recognizes the distinguished educational history of La Salle University, which has awarded collegiate degrees during three centuries. Chartered in 1863 and named for St. John Baptist de La Salle (1651-1719), La Salle College occupied three previous sites in Philadelphia before moving here in 1930. La Salle College High School was an integral part of the campus from 1929 until its 1960 relocation to Wyndmoor, Pa. The campus expanded with the 1984 acquisition of the "Belfield Farm," including the National Historic Landmark home and studio (1810-1826) of colonial portraitist Charles Willson Peale. La Salle College was granted University Status in 1984. The growth supports the primary goal of the De La Salle Christian Brothers and their countless colleagues — a Catholic and Lasallian education.

Erected 2006 by John Leo McHale, La Salle College Class of 1949 and La Salle College High School Class of 1942.
