This photo is of the predecessor State Street Bridge, taken from the south side of the Chicago River, approximately where Wacker Drive sits today; where this marker is located today would approximately be on the left side in the far distance. The caption from the Chicago History Museum: "View from South Water Street of State Street Bridge, Chicago, Illinois, circa 1905. Pedestrians and horse-drawn vehicles are waiting to cross bridge. State Street Bridge was one of the first rolling-lift or bascule bridges."
