Hier - in Mesch (Gem. Eijsden) - begon de bevrijding van Nederland door de geallieerden.

Manschappen van de 30ste Amerikaanse Infanterie-Divisie bijgenaamd de Old Hickory overschrijden nabij dit gedenkteken op 12 september 1944 om 10.00 uur v. m. de nederlands-belgische grens.

Zij zijn daardoor de eerste geallieerden, die voet zetten op nederlandse bodem.

World War 1940-1945

Here in Mesch (Eijsden County) began the liberation of the Netherlands by the Allies.

Units of the US 30th Infantry Division (nicknamed “Old Hickory”) crossed over the Dutch-Belgian border at 10 am on September 12, 1944 not far from this monument.

They were therefore the first Allies to set foot on Dutch soil.
