Regarding Willard Southerland House. Excerpts from the National Register nomination:
This large one and one-half story, three bay, double pile, bungalow, built in 1923, has lost part of its integrity through the addition of aluminum siding even though many of the details have survived.…
William B. Southerland, an employee of the Southern Railroad, purchased this lot and house from J.A. Moretz in 1924. Moretz purchased a number of adjoining lots on Fourth Avenue and Fifth Street from the A.A. Yoder estate in 1922 for $4,750. Southerland paid $6,500 for this lot in January of 1924 suggesting that improvements had been made on it. He appears to have occupied the house until the mid 1940s.
