1. These Surplus Guns Marker
Inscription. These surplus guns are not identical although of like manufacture and were donated by the U.S. Government to the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) Post #259 in 1900 being dedicated to the court house. Cast by the Carron Ironworks of Falkirk, Scotland for the Royal Navy circa 1770. One gun has sustained significant marine encrustation from long submergence in sea water, most likely along the U.S. Atlantic Coast. These cannons may very well have been used against American forces during the Revolutionary War.
