East Lawn
North Garden
| | [Tudor Place] | |
In the early 19th century, the northeast portion of the garden was an orchard with pears, apples, and other fruits. By the 1880s, this area was leveled and converted into a lawn tennis court used by Britannia's grandchildren. They formed the Tudor Place Lawn Tennis Club in September 1888. In the early 20th century, the paling fence and screen of white pine and magnolia trees were added to provide privacy after the construction of a multi-story apartment building across 31st Street, which is still seen there today.
