Inscription.
Construction of Georgian Leinster House began in 1745. It was commissioned by James FitzGerald (1722-1773), the twentieth Earl of Kildare, who became the Duke of Leinster in 1766, and is the original and oldest part of modern day Leinster House. The House has been added to over the years to meet the needs of its various occupants and in 1922 became the seat of the Houses of the Oireachtas - the Irish Parliament.

Over the last 270 years, there has been much wear and tear on the structure and fabric of the House and, while carefully managed, it has now become evident that restoration work is required. The Office of Public Works (OPW) is working to reinstate the fabric of Georgian Leinster House, with a view to conserving and restoring this significant building for future generations.

Ongoing steps have been taken to protect the ornate ceilings and other historical features; however, it is now time to also address the underlying issues in order to meet the longer term needs of the House. The proposed works involve a full rewiring of Georgian Leinster House, structural strengthening of existing floors, fire upgrading

Tosaíodh ar Theach Laighean Seoirseach a thógáil in 1745. Ba é Séamas Mac Gearailt (1722-1773), fichiú hlarla Chill Dara, a ndearnadh Diúc Laighean de in 1766, a choimisiúnaigh é, agus is é an chuid bhunaidh agus an chuid is sine de Theach Laighean an lae inniu é. Cuireadh leis an Teach le himeacht na mblianta chun go bhfreastalódh sé ar riachtanais na n-áititheoirí éagsúla a bhí ann agus ó1922 i leith is ann atá Tithe an Oireachtais - Parlaimint na hÉireann suite.

Cé gur tugadh aire cháiréiseach don Teach le 270 bliain anuas, fágadh rian an chaithimh ar struchtúr agus ar inneach an Tí agus is léir anois go bhfuil gá le hobair athchóirithe a dhéanamh air. Tá Oifig na nOibreacha Poiblí (OOP) ag obair chun inneach Theach Laighean Seoirseach a chur ar ais mar a bhí, d'fhonn an foirgneamh suntasach seo a chaomhnú agus a athchóiriú do na glúinte atá le teacht.

Tá bearta leanúnacha curtha i gcrích cheana féin chun na síleálacha ornáideacha agus gnéithe stairiúla eile a chosaint; tá sé in am anois

freisin, áfach, aghaidh a thabhairt ar roinnt bunfhadhbanna chun go mbeifear in ann freastal ar riachtanais fhadtéarma an Tí. Tá sé i gceist go ndéanfar, mar chuid de na hoibreacha beartaithe: athshreangú iomlán ar Theach Laighean Seoirseach, neartú struchtúrtha ar na hurláir atá ann cheana féin, oibreacha uasghrádaithe dóiteáin, deisiú siúinéireachta agus cloch, chomh maith le hoibreacha ginearálta caomhnaithe ailtireachta agus athchóirithe.

Leanfaidh obair na Parlaiminte ar aghaidh mar is gnáth fad a bheidh na hoibreacha seo ar siúl.
