1. Wisconsin Power & Light Building Marker
Inscription. The Geneva Area Museum of History is housed in the former Wisconsin Power & Light Building. The Lake Geneva Water & Light Co. built the original building in 1894 and expanded it in 1929. In 1897 the Haskins Electric Co. first generated electricity here and in 1898 the Equitable Light Co. was formed which worked with the Lake Geneva Water Power & Lake Level Co. to provide electricity. In 1915 Equitable became Southern Wisconsin Electric Co. and in 1929 Wisconsin Power & Light Co. In 1998 the City acquired the building and the Museum relocated here in 2004.
