1. The Emporium Marker

The Emporium. . Built in 1899, this building was occupied by the W.H. Keller Department Store until 1932. The Kroger Grocery and Baking Company was located here from 1935 until the mid-1950s. Former employees who gained work experience there include James Best, who starred in television and movies, and Frank O'Bannon, Indiana's 47th governor. The Dollar Store operated out of the building from August of 1964 until the Kintner House, Inc. purchased the building in 1986. At that time, the building, along with the Keller Building and the adjacent F.A. Bulleit Building, was restored and collectively named "The Emporium."
