Inscription. The "Corydon Republican," a family newspaper with many neighborhood correspondents, operated out of this building for almost six decades. The newspaper moved from the second floor of the Griffin Building to this location in 1912. George Self (1842-1914) and his son Frank (1875-1936) practiced law from offices in the north section. Later owners of the newspaper included Mrs. Frank Self, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Watson, and Kean Irwin. The newspaper, which became the Harrison County Press in 1971, continued to be published weekly until publication ceased in 1986. In 2006 Burgher & Burgher Attorneys & Counselors renovated the building and moved their law offices here.

The Republican Building began as the Bank of Corydon. The original bank's iron and stone vault remains in the rear of the building. The bank, run by George Applegate (1842-1910), was located here from 1880 until 1910 when its name changed to Corydon National Bank and an impressive new building was built on the southwest corner of Beaver Street and Capitol Avenue.
