Inscription. In Corydon, the name "Conrad" is synonymous with the word "music." The bandstand on Corydon's town square is named after Hurley Conrad, a respected musician who joined Conrad Music in 1919. Hurley was the younger son of Charles W. Conrad, who founded Conrad Music in 1890 and initially operated the store with his eldest son, Claude. When Hurley took over operations in 1927 he expanded the store to include band instruments and, later, furniture and appliances.

Paul and Charles Conrad, Hurley and wife Mary's twin sons, comprised the third generation of the family to operate the music store. Conrad Music grew to over 6,500 square feet of display and teaching space with separate buildings for technical services and warehousing In 2015, Brad Kramer purchased Conrad Music and planned to continue the tradition of customer service and promotion of school band participation. Conrad Music Service is a major supplier of music instruments used by hundreds of school bands. This building was completed in 1960, with the north section housing a new Corydon Post Office. At that time, several offices were located upstairs, including the WPDF radio station. The post office remained here until 1990 when a new facility was constructed on Highway 62 West.
