The grand Live Oaks in the allée or alley were planted around 1826 according to the Prud'homme family. The interlocking canopies cool a large area in front of the house, but they also help channel cool breezes toward the house.

From formal boxwood parterre to a variety of bulbs, camellias, and crepe myrtles, the garden has undergone many changes. The family removed the bushes and began using old bottles to edge the beds.

In the early 1900s there were about 20 varieties of roses and chrysanthemums. Part of a garden journal is preserved, listing the types and locations of many of the roses shown below.
